The last year has been a whirlwind of DIY madness with one huge project after another. Our journey to make our house a home has been thrilling, exhausting, and exuberant. Unfortunately, our timeline of projects and summer vacations that collided in a fast and furious summer that pulled me away from the blog. But the results are simply amazing, breathtaking, and fun. We made memories and check marked off a few things on the renovation list. And today mark’s the finale of one of those projects: the door to nowhere now leads to our new deck!
This is the door leading from the back of the house that leads into the kitchen. And ignore the Christmas tree there. It’s a long story about missing the pickup days and promises of a bonfire that never happened. #notperfect
Now this is one project that hubby and I called in the professionals. Anything involving “code” and multiple “city inspections”, we don’t go there. It was cheaper to hire someone than to worry about some benign section of the code and being forced to re-do it. Even though we hired someone to do the actual work, there was still a good amount of prep, paperwork, and design to do. The best part? My son sitting outside in his mini-Adirondack chair “supervising” for hours. It was so funny, but the work crew didn’t mind. We just made sure he didn’t bother them.
It was so exciting to watch it go up. Especially when they started putting in the stairs. We intend to put a patio down below so the stairs curve to the side where we will put a fire pit and some seating eventually. Maybe get rid of the Christmas tree. For now, it’s just so nice to sit out back on the deck and watch the stars.
Oh, and the best part of this means that we will be adopting a new furbaby! I vowed to have the deck finished so that we could let them easily out to potty. I am a huge dog lover and although I miss my Diesel every day (he passed away in December last year), I know we have a great home and heart to welcome a new dog (or 2!) into our life.
How was your summer? Did you get any projects done or did you get to make some new memories? Here is hoping that it was the best!
