Organizing is 90% mental. If you put your mind to it, you too can have a beautifully organized home. Here are six steps to functionally organize any room in one day.
Decide how you want to use the space. What is going to be in there? Who will be using the space? Keep goals simple for success.
1
Move everything that can be moved out of the space so that you can get a fresh start. Sort as you go – donate, sell, trash, keep.
2
Visualize the goal. Stop thinking “How am I going to fit this in here?” and start thinking, “How do I see myself using this space?”.
3
1. Store items accessed most often at eye level. 2. Leave 10-15% empty space. No bin or shelf should be stuffed full. 3. Plan ahead for future storage needs by buying extra bins.
Put things back in order of importance to you. (your favorite clothing items first or items that fit your NEEDS).
4
Once the space is finished, take your housemates on a tour. The rest of the family will understand where things go, and hopefully, follow the plan. (Bonus: No more, “Mom! I can’t find…”).
5
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but we aren’t quite done. Remember those piles of donate, sell, and trash items? Set a time limit – one week from your start date.
