A traditional dining room is going dramatic, yet simple in design!
It’s funny how being away can give you clarity on some things. After spending most of the summer remodeling my parent’s house, I have been pumped to get back home and get to work on the plans that swirl in my head.
After finishing up the laundry room, it’s time to turn our heads to the dining room I have never gotten quite finished. The walls never felt right, and I have been wanting to redo the table fuur-ev-eer. Second time around is gonna rock it!
Many months ago, I took the time to pick out paint colors and inspiration for what I wanted for the dining room. I bought the paint, the trim, and was ready to go.
And then…nothing happened.
That same paint has been sitting in the basement gathering dust. Call it life. call it more immediate projects. I couldn’t tell you why, honestly.
Meanwhile, the dining room has been relegated to a staging area for our other projects, like wallpapering the laundry room. Poor thing. I didn’t forget you!
It’s her time to shine brightly! So here is the mood board I whipped up to put the see the ideas together in my head.

Walls – we already have beautiful picture frame wainscoting and crown molding, but it oddly ends before the wall does, so we are going to extend it all the way down the wall like it should have been all along. I’ve picked out Van Deusen Blue from Benjamin Moore as the wall color.
Light Fixtures – Hubby isn’t too happy about turning our 1 lighting fixture into 2, but it’s gonna be so pretty and frame out long table! I also still really like these larger glass light fixtures, but I am concerned that only 1 bulb may not be bright enough.
Art – I love when I can incorporate things from my heritage and memories. Therefore the bird gallery wall that I made from my grandma’s books is definitely staying!
Area Rug – I absolutely love the silver foxy rug that brims with a little old world charm and vintage, distressed vibe.
Dining Room Table – I love our current dining room table, and I have been planning on refinishing it for a long time. I am actually really looking forward to this one in particular.
Dining Room Chairs – While I haven’t quite decided what I want to do with the chairs or if I want to buy new ones, I plan on keeping our wingback chairs that go on each end.
So there ya go! It’s mostly a lot of paint and stain but getting started is so exciting!
