We are having such a mild winter here in northern Virginia has me all befuddled. I think we got one day of snow and winter coats seemed so optional this year outside a handful of days. I scoffed good ol’ Phil’s prediction of 6 more weeks of winter because, well, what winter?! And although below freezing temperatures aren’t something I exactly want, their absence has made spring fever come a little early this year. My son brought me a wild flower growing yesterday and the mix of emotions hit me pretty hard. Yay, the first herald’s of spring! Wait. It’s too early!
Well, I’m indulging in my fever induced state by starting to think about decorating for the outdoors. It’s totally fine. I think I can get away with it this year. Paint brushes are power tools are good every season.
Confession time: you might remember this welcome sign from my spring refresh but I never showed how it came to be. First, I stained it with some leftover stain I had from staining my son’s art display. I used my silhouette to make the double layered letters.
Tip: If you don’t have a silhouette, DecoArt has 3 inch letter stencils that are great. For larger letters, you can buy wood letters like these from a craft store and either trace them or attach and paint them for a quick project.
I painted the letters in Americana Multi-surface Satin in Sky Blue. You can still see the edging of the letters in the stain.
On the reverse side, I recently added the Believe text for Christmas time! I used the new line from DecoArt called Curb Appeal. The Modern Red color is perfect shade of red for my little wood sign and I don’t have to worry about it fading or cracking outdoors.
